Our Destination Expert’s Opinion on
Staying in Ucluelet
Ucluelet is a laid-back fishing village and a favoured destination for surfing year-round. Thanks to the popularity of nearby Tofino, Ucluelet has gained a reputation as an alternative for travellers seeking a slower pace with fewer tourists.
Pacific Rim National Park is among the most sought-after vacation spots on the west coast of British Columbia for its rainforest trails, kayaking, and camping. Ucluelet’s place along the Pacific Ocean makes it great for storm watching, exploring the rugged nature, and enjoying the sandy shores of its many beaches.
The name Ucluelet means “people of the safe harbour” in the Nuu-chah-nulth (Nootka) language, and it isn’t hard to see why. Just a single afternoon spent in the coastal town is enough to make you feel at peace. If you call yourself an outdoor person, then prepare to step into paradise!
